Capital Waterfall Where this month's surplus actually goes, in priority order
Every rupee of surplus is allocated top-down: it fills the next priority completely before spilling to the one below. This is a live calculation, not a static list — change Salary/Expenses/Cash in Setup and watch it re-route.
Debt-vs-invest spread & emergency-fund target are editable in Setup → FI Rules & Targets.

What is Monte Carlo, and how do I use it? Plain-language guide
A normal projection assumes your investments grow at one fixed rate every single year — unrealistic, since markets actually go up a lot some years and down in others. Monte Carlo instead runs 500 randomized "alternate futures" for your portfolio, each year's return drawn randomly around your assumed average (but allowed to swing up or down based on Volatility). It then shows you the spread of outcomes — not just one number, but the realistic range, including the unlucky paths.
Starting Corpus
The investable pool you begin retirement/FI with — today's NPS+MF+EPF+Gold+Cash (minus loans), or whatever number you want to stress-test.
Yearly Withdrawal
What you plan to pull out each year to live on, in today's rupees. The simulation inflates it every year by the Withdrawal Inflation rate.
Mean Return %
Your assumed average annual portfolio return (e.g. 11% for an equity-heavy mix). This is the centre of the random distribution, not a guarantee.
Volatility %
How wildly returns swing year to year (standard deviation). Higher = bumpier ride. Pure equity ≈ 15-20%, balanced ≈ 8-12%, debt-heavy ≈ 3-6%.
Withdrawal Inflation %/yr
How fast your living expenses grow each year. Usually close to general inflation (5-7% in India), sometimes higher for healthcare-heavy years.
Simulation Years
How many years the corpus needs to survive — e.g. 30 years if you plan to retire at 50 and want it to last to 80.
Reading the output: Success Rate is the % of the 500 simulated futures where money never ran out — aim for 85-90%+ for comfort. The chart's shaded bands show the 10th-90th and 25th-75th percentile outcomes: the solid green line is the median (typical) path, the lower red-tinted band is your "bad luck" scenario. If Success Rate is low, you can fix it by lowering Yearly Withdrawal, raising Starting Corpus, reducing Volatility (more debt/balanced allocation), or shortening Simulation Years.

Buy vs Rent (RE IRR)
Compares two paths over the same horizon: Buy — pay downpayment + EMI, end up owning the appreciated property (loan assumed fully repaid by the end of the horizon). Rent + Invest — invest the downpayment instead, rent the equivalent property, and invest whatever's left over each month from not paying EMI (or top up if rent costs more than EMI would). Whichever final number is bigger "wins" on pure net worth — it ignores forced-savings discipline, stamp duty/selling costs, and the non-financial value of owning a home.

🔌 AI Connection Diagnose and fix "Ask WARREN" connectivity
By default, "Ask WARREN" calls Anthropic's API directly from this file, which browsers block (no API key, no CORS) — it will say "AI unavailable" until you point it at a backend you control. This isn't a flaky connection; it's expected for a static HTML file.
Custom AI Endpoint (optional — your own proxy/backend that forwards to Claude)
API Key (only if your backend expects one in-browser — not recommended for production)
☁️ Cloud Sync Access WARREN from any browser via Cloudflare D1
This sends your financial data to the same worker as AI Connection. Set a real Sync Secret below — without one, anyone with your worker's URL could read or overwrite this data. The PDF files (salary slips, Form 16s) do NOT sync yet — only the numbers/records do.
Sync Secret (set once here, then paste the same value in on your other browser)
🐙 GitHub Backup Occasional versioned snapshot to a private repo — not the live sync
This is a manual, occasional backup — Cloud Sync above is still what keeps browsers in sync day-to-day. Every backup here becomes a permanent git commit, so old snapshots stay recoverable from history even after a newer one is pushed — use it for periodic safety-net snapshots, not routine syncing. Requires a private repo and a GitHub Personal Access Token with "Contents: Read and write" permission on that repo.
Scenario Manager Model multiple financial futures
Switching scenarios is non-destructive — your current numbers are saved automatically before loading another scenario, so nothing is ever lost. "Base Case" always holds your real, current numbers.

Purchase History Every unit/share top-up you've logged, dated
Adding units to a fund/stock you already hold (same code/symbol) logs it here as a dated purchase instead of creating a duplicate row — this is where "when did I buy this and how much" lives, separate from the live running total shown above.
Tax Rules Update when a Budget changes these — flows through instantly
Slab edges/rates (4L/8L/12L… for new regime, 2.5L/5L/10L for old) are coded into the calculator, not editable here, since they rarely change shape — only the numbers above (deduction amounts, rebate limits, caps) tend to move Budget to Budget. If a Budget ever redraws the slabs themselves, flag it and they'll be updated.
FI Rules & Targets
Capital Waterfall: if Home Loan Rate (Preclosure tab) exceeds Equity CAGR + spread, surplus routes to loan paydown. Rebalance Band: drift beyond ±this% from target triggers Buy/Sell; inside the band it's Hold.

🔒 Ancestral Gold is added to Total Net Worth everywhere, but is deliberately excluded from Investable Net Worth, the FI gap calculation, the Rebalancing Engine, and the allocation chart — since it's not something you'd actually sell to fund retirement or rebalance against.
Loans Home, car, personal, society — as many as you have

Expense Categories Rename, add, or delete — also editable inside the Money Map wizard
Renaming or deleting a category here doesn't change your total Expenses/mo — that only updates when you next go through the Money Map wizard and its amounts are re-summed.
Income Sources Rename, add, or delete — also editable inside the Money Map wizard
First source maps to Salary/mo, everything else sums into Rent Income/mo — both are added together everywhere else in WARREN, so this split is just for your own tracking.
